Edgar P. Hoener served as Vice President and Business Manager of The Timberman, a timber industry magazine published in Portland, Oregon by George M. Cornwall from 1932 until he became co-publisher in 1950 after Cornwall's death. Miller Freeman Publications acquired a partial interest in the publication in 1955 and full ownership in 1957. The first forestry class was taught at OSU in 1896 and ten years later the first four-year degree program was established. Forestry was elevated to school status in 1913, with George Peavy as its first dean, and became a college in 1984. Graduate work was authorized in 1921; the Ph. D. program began in 1959.
